MARKHAM, Local News - At its first meeting of the new year on January 25th, the Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board appointed Mayor Frank Scarpitti as the Board Chair for 2012. Mayor Scarpitti has served on the Board since 2007, although this is his first year as Chair.

“I am honoured to serve on the Board of one of the leading police services in the country. My involvement with York Regional Police dates back many years. Chief Jolliffe and I worked together on a variety of initiatives, including the construction of #5 District headquarters in Markham in 1989," stated Mayor Scarpitti in accepting the position. "We also worked closely with the Chinese Consultative Committee and with the Markham African Caribbean Association, building partnerships in the community. I would like to thank my colleagues on the Board for their support and look forward to working with everyone.”

The Board re-elected Barbara Bartlett as Vice Chair, having been first elected to the position in November 2010, and re-elected in January 2011. She has served on the Board since 2008.

Mayor Scarpitti replaces Regional Councillor Danny Wheeler, who had served as Chair since his appointment in 2007.
