MARKHAM, Local News - York Region residents may be able to board public transit as early as February 4th, with Viva workers ratifying a new contract by 77%, and a tentative settlement reached with Miller workers is subject to ratification on Saturday, January 28th.
Viva workers voted 129 to 35 to approve a settlement that gives them wage increases of 10.8% over the four-year term of the new agreement. An increase in the employer-paid portion of the health care benefits package, additional paid sick day, and additional allowances for work-related clothing and tools were also part of the new settlement.
The union representing striking Miller workers is recommending ratification for Saturday's secret ballot vote.
The disruption of bus service in York Region has been the longest transit strike in GTA history.
