Mayor of the Town of East Gwillimbury, Virginia Hackson was sworn in as a Member of the Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board at its meeting on February 15, 2012. Regional Council appointed Mayor Hackson to the Police Services Board effective February 1, 2012 and ending November 30, 2014.  

Until her election as Mayor in October 2010, Mayor Hackson served the people of East Gwillimbury as a Councillor for three terms, joining Town Council in 2001. Mayor Hackson has represented East Gwillimbury on the Board of Directors of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority since 2001, and she has been its Chair since 2006.
 
Years of leadership in the community have earned her significant recognition including The Queen’s Jubilee Medal for Community Service and the In Celebration of Women, Rural Government Award.
 
Chair Frank Scarpitti stated, "I would like to welcome you on behalf of the Board and look forward to working with you and to your contribution in making York Region a safer community,” Mayor Hackson thanked the Board and stated. “I am thrilled to be here and would like to thank Regional Council for having the confidence in me. I am honoured and humbled and look forward to being a member of this Board.”
 
The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is a seven-member civilian Board that governs the York Regional Police. Four members are appointed by Regional Council and three by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
