Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking public assistance in identifying a male suspect following a robbery in the Town of Markham.

On Friday, February 17, 2012, at approximately 12:05 a.m., a suspect, armed with a knife, entered the Petro Canada gas station located at 9249 Ninth Line. The suspect approached the victim, a store employee and made a demand for cash and cigarettes. For unknown reasons, the suspect suddenly fled on foot from the store heading east on 16th Avenue without the cigarettes or cash.
 
The suspect is described as:

  • Male, white
  • 5’8”, average build
  • 25 to 30 years old
  • Short, straight black hair
  • Wearing a grey track suit, a green bandana covering his face and carrying a black plastic bag and a knife

 
No one was injured during the incident.
 
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking witnesses to come forward.
 
Investigators from the Hold-Up Unit remind the public that if you find yourself the victim of a robbery, be sure to cooperate with suspects and do not engage in a physical confrontation. Remember absolutely everything that you can about the offender. A good description of a suspect is a very valuable tool for our investigators.
